The maximum weight that I ever reached was 430 pounds. That is a little over 195 Kilos. I was big! I am lucky I lived through that.
Want to see what I looked like when I weighed 430 pounds? Look below. In the end, I will show a picture of what I look like today.
Starting in 2000, I began doing more exercise, particularly swimming. I ate a slightly better diet. In 2016 I went to a low carb diet. In February 2017 I started doing Intermittent Fasting, and shortly after that, I started doing more long-term fasting too.
Today, the weight is quickly going down! I know, of course, that I have a long way to go still, but I am on the right path now. I am also a lot healthier than I was before! That is the important thing.
How do I look today?
Today, I am just under 265 pounds and feeling wonderful! This photo was taken last week when my grandchildren were in town for a visit, have a look:

Amazing, Bob. Just amazing. So happy for you and for your family. I can tell that this is already making a great difference in your life.
Bob
Thank you so much, Tom. You know, it was a bit hard to post those photos, because almost none of my current friends have any idea that I was that big, and have never seen those pictures. You know what, though? It feels liberating to post it. It is like I am laying it all out in the open, and I can walk away from that guy, and continue on a path toward good health and feeling good!

Thats very inspiring Bob. I’m presently between 180 and 190. For my height and frame that is obese. I have found the weight melts off of me in the Philippines. I have to wonder if its just eating healthier and walking a tad more.
Philippines was one of the first countries to ban Aspartame but its still in everything there just like it is here.
Coke there is a tad better but I wish they’d follow Mexico’s lead and only use natively grown sugar and forget that “high fructose corn syrup” garbage that is UBIQUITOUS in America. It is there too.
I’ve noticed my last couple of visits there the weight didn’t peel off me like before. I think its because I’ve been drinking more.
I like to think to myself “perhaps if I lived here maybe I’d stay thin” but I know its a lie. I need to cut out the Filipino booze.
Bob
180 to 190 obese? Wow, that is a shocker!
Michael Heavrin
I have a target weight of 180. If I do the BMI calculation, I’m still fat.
Bob
Personally, I believe you should forget the charts and the government numbers. Just go to the weight at which you feel comfortable and healthy. No need to worry beyond that! Feeling good is the goal, and being healthy! Only you can decide that.
Luanne Shackelford
Great post! I think this will give hope to many others who have struggled. ๐
Bob Martin
Thank you, Luanne. You know, I did not think at all this would happen, but after posting this I kind of had a breakdown, and was in tears. It was like I laid all the cards on the table, and liberated myself from the guy in the pictures. I have struggled with this for most of my life, and now I know that I am on the right path. I owe you great thanks for your help and support on this journey.
Luanne Shackelford
I am so glad to be a part, and am glad we can be a continued encouragement! I can imagine those emotions. I was amazed to see the pictures, actually, and almost felt tears myself… And I was also struck with the thought that, even with that weight, you have been so blessed with a wonderful family! You are well loved, and that also helps so much!
Bob Martin
Thank you Luanne. The emotions that I experienced were not what I was expecting at all, they were so real. Few people that I know today had ever seen me at my peak weight, so sharing it was more emotional than I expected it to be.
Wally Barr
I wasnt too far behind at 330..
Bob Martin
That is still a long way behind.. but glad you turned the corner on that! ๐
Wally Barr
i would have been dead had i gotten close to 400 i had my heart surgery at 330 and although I lost some weight I had to take further steps to overcome my food addiction.
Bob Martin
I am surprised that I did not die during that time, Wally. When I posted this and looked at those photos it made me quite emotional realizing the danger I was in and leaving my family behind. I am so glad to put it behind me.
Wally Barr
im glad you made it back and are an inspiration to others
Bob Martin
Me too Wally! I am sure that your journey has also inspired many!
Marjorie Bonser
Well done Bob, as you know David is working in the other direction. At least he has now got his appetite back and eating more.
Bob Martin
That is great to hear, Marjorie! I hope that David is feeling better every day!
Marjorie Bonser
Thank you Bob, still waiting for a date for the other op. He had one last week. He is doing well though.
Dave Starr
Holy shitake, Chef, that’s amazing! Great going and keep it up!
Bob
Thank you Dave. It has been an amazing journey, negatives and positives. I am so glad to be on the positive side of the ledger now!
Byron Watts
Congratulations Bob!
The reward is life.
Bob
Thank you Byron, I appreciate that!
Donald John Lecraw
Bob, do you have a goal for your weight?
Bob Martin
Yes, the goal is to be healthy. If you’re asking about a gold weight, haven’t really decided on that yet.
Donald John Lecraw
I’m on a diet too – Always Hungry – no kidding by a Harvard med school prof. Low carb like yours. My goal, 195 down to 160. (I am 6′ and weighed 150 when I graduated from Stanford.)
Bob Martin
I would not say I’m on a diet. What I would say that I have changed the diet that I eat. I eat in a different way that I used to, but I’m not on a diet. I basically no carbs at all, except for a few that are in vegetables. To be honest, I’m never hungry. Even while I’m fasting I’m not hungry. Right now I’m just finishing up day one of a five-day fast. Not only am I not hungry, I feel great.
Randy Weis
It’s great that your not only losing weight, but your not hungry. Continue to work hard and remain humble. Last time I saw on here you were on a 30 day fast. Was just wondering about it.
Bob Martin
I have an update coming I believe on Wednesday about the 30 day fast. In short, I decided to change to a series of five days past, with eating on the weekend. There are reasons for my decision, and they will be explained when the post comes out. If I said, never call it is on Wednesday that will post. Anyway, thank you for your nice comment.
Ray Madden
Amazing stay the course Bob oorahhh
Bob Martin
Thank you, I appreciate that very much.
Ray Madden
Well deserved
Kenneth Wood
I have lost 50 pounds since October 2016 on a low cab, high fat diet (ketone) diet.

Curtis Lee Cooper
Wow Bob. That is amazing!
Bob Martin
Thank you Curtis, to be honest I feel incredible.
Stephen M Gray
Super job and commitment Bob. I had never seen the earlier photos. I can’t imagine the daily stress being that heavy put on your body and mind, and perhaps the secret worry of your lovely wife. Hard to bend over, easily winded, and couldn’t fit in typical things like chairs, toilets, plane and jeepster seats etc.So pleased for you that the diet and fasting is melting off the excess weight. Unless you are 7 feet tall, would seem like 200 might be a good target. And it is interesting to me how God’s hand has been on you throughout this experience, including the heart surgery, which I am sure also contributed to healing and weight loss by itself. God bless my friend, y ou are looking great.
Bob Martin
Hi Stephen, everything you say is very true. To be honest, it was even hard to look at those pictures. I have come a long way since then, and I intend to go a lot further.
Stephen M Gray
You surely have… That must have been that good old southern, Cajun food before ๐
LeRoy Miller
Looking good, Bob.
Bob Martin
Thank you my friend.
William D. Kash
That’s what Filipino foods will do for you.
Bob Martin
Maybe you’re joking, but I don’t even eat Filipino food, I almost always eat American type food. But, to do this, I just didn’t need food at all. Most of the time I fast now.
Terry L Snyder
Proud of you Bob, that is great news to hear. And reversing diabetes is wonderful as well. Good veggies and fruits key too.
Bob Martin
I’m the type of diet that I’m doing, fruit is only a very occasional treat. Yes, I’m very happy to as reverse diabetes, that is the most important thing to me. Thank you very much for your support.
Chas Rand
Wow Bob, I never realised that you were so big back then. I thought I was big once I hit 200lb many years ago. I now tend to stay around the 165/170 mark ๐ You’ve done extremely well shifting all that.
Bob Martin
Ha ha.. 200 lb is rather average these days, not big at all! ๐
john
Bob fasting and zero carbs is the best way to go. God bless.
Bob
I agree John. It sure has worked well for me!
Inday Apinohon
I all remember this
Bob Martin
Yes, you are one of my few friends today who knew me back then!
Inday Apinohon

Bob Hess
One word…….AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ๐
Bob Martin
Thank you Bob.
Trevor Hari
Hi Bob, what a huge acheivement. Just do not fall for that low fat falsehood re food. Good fat is good for you as your body needs it for fuel. Well Done!!!!
Bob Martin
You are so right, and that is what I am doing, Trevor… good fat is very good for the body! And the latest studies are proving that eating a high fat diet does not make you fat, in fact it helps you lose weight! I know it is working well for me! Thanks for your support.
Geri Francisco-Wyant
Awesome… good for you Bob!
Bob Martin
Thank you Geri.
Brian Brown
