A short post today, I just want to update for my friends here. It is not a matter of bragging about my progress… it can be inspiring for others who are on the same journey that I am. Also, I just like to post updates to keep my friends and followers informed. Posting things like this also give me a record to go back to if I want to review my progress.
There are two different things to consider when it comes to my weight, my measurements, and other metrics. First thing is that I used to be 430 pounds, but that was years ago. Between 2000 through 2008 or so, I lost weight down to about 320 pounds. So my measurements and weight were much different in 2000 compared to say 2008 or 2009. In overall terms, I count my metrics from 2000 since that was my peak weight. Between 2008 or so through 2017, I stayed fairly steady in the 320 range, with occasional losses and regains during that period, but not huge amounts.
Here are my body measurements as best I remember from 2000:
Weight: 430 lb.
Waist measurement (taken at the belly button, probably a bit above my waist): 66 inches, perhaps more
Neck: 24 inches
January 2017 Data
In 2017, after my late 2016 heart bypass, I decided to get serious about improving my health. Although making health improvements would obviously lead to losing more weight, weight loss was not my primary goal. It is more of a by-product of the primary goals earlier this year. I have already achieved huge health improvements in the past 6 months or so, so now, I consider continued weight loss as my primary goal at this time.
At the beginning of 2017, here are the metrics that I have followed:
Weight: 320 lb. (fluctuated daily, of course between say 316 to 320)
Waist measurement (taken at the belly button, probably a bit above my waist): 59 inches
Neck: 18 inches
July 2017 Data
After 7 months of following a strict ketogenic diet, and 5 months of doing Intermittent Fasting with some Long Term Fasting, here is what I measure today:
Weight: 245 lb. (fluctuated daily, of course between say 243 to 247)
Waist measurement (taken at the belly button, probably a bit above my waist): 52 1/2 inches
Neck: 15 1/2 inches
Changes since 2000
The differences between 2000 and now:
Weight: Down 185 pounds
Waist Measurement: Down 13 1/2 inches
Neck size: Down 8 1/2 inches
Wow, that is a huge change, even though it is over a period of 17 years.
Changes since January 2017
The differences between January 2017 and now:
Weight: Down 75 pounds
Waist Measurement: Down 6 1/2 inches
Neck size: Down 2 1/2 inches
So, there you have it! Those are my numbers right now.
In the past week or so, my weight loss has slowed down, but I have also been doing less fasting. I cut back on fasting because I had an eye procedure last week, which caused me to stop my regular fasting schedule early. I like to be well nourished if I am going in for a medical procedure.
Alternate Day Fasting
This week I changed my fasting schedule, I am doing 42-hour alternate day fasting instead of a continuous 6 day fast. In other words, I ate on Saturday at 6 PM, then fasted until noon on Monday, ate lunch and dinner, and then fasted for another 42 hours. I decided to do this as a test to see how it works. This is similar to what Dr. Fung does with most of his patients, he does mostly a 36-hour alternate day fast, I just extended it to 42, because I really never feel a need to eat breakfast in the morning.
