A lot of people tell me that “fasting is not worth it”. “It is too extreme”. “It is not healthy”.
Truth is, I find fasting to be very easy. Cutting calories, but still eating, is, in my opinion (at least for me)Β very much harder to do. I have done low-calorie diets so many times in my life and never had success. I started fasting in February 2017 and the results have been fantastic.
Now, I am going to show two pictures. The “old me,” and the “new me.”
Which one looks healthier?
Based on the changes, do you think it was worth it?

Weight Loss so far
The old me was 430 pounds. The new me, right now, is 230 pounds.
Weight loss of 200 lb! I can’t believe it.
It was not hard to do
I am shocked that I have lost this weight without it being very difficult at all.
Low carb on the days that I eat. I usually eat 1 day a week (1 or 2 meals and only low carb). I fast the other 6 days.
Healthy?
But like people tell me… fasting is not healthy/

Usually, fasting actually leads to increased energy! It is the reverse of what people would expect.

Wow! Congratulations on your weight loss. i read both of your articles on fasting. It’s something I was afraid to do because of diabetes and needing to eat and take medicine. One I review Dr. Fung’s teachings I will embark on a fast myself.

Thank you Joyful. I was afraid of fasting at first, but figured what could I lose. I tried it and it has been wonderful. I used to have diabetes (for 25 years) but it is gone now!

I am fairly strict on my fasts. No supplements. For exercise i lift weights and i also walk 5 to 10 miles per day. For drinking water I just drink whatever i want, I mean I drink however much my body asks for.

Awesome job! Im wondering if you plan to continue this lifestyle once you get to your goal weight? I have done a few extended fasts (5-7 Days) but usually only once per few months and in between I change it up, ie 1 meal per day, sometimes fast for 36 hours etc. I canβt imagine only eating 1 day per week on a regular basis. Anyway Iβm very happy for you- you are an inspiration!!!!

Thank you Erica. Doing EF regularly can be hard at first, but once you get used to it.. well.. you are used to it! LOL
I do plan to do fasting for the rest of my life, regardless of reaching my goal weight in the near future I hope! I will probably do mostly IF with a few EF times 2 or 3 times per year. That is my current thought anyway.

Great job! I love your posts! I believe I could do EF but I need the BPC and MCT oil for appetite suppression. Is that terribly wrong in your opinion? Just one cup of coffee with 1 tblsp MCT oil and 1 Tblsp butter in The morn and afternoon?

In my opinion you should do what you need to do to make it. Does that means bulletproof coffee use it. In time you will train yourself to you won’t need it anymore or will need much last. Good luck.

I lost 60 kgs, that was before learning about fasting though. I do IF and eat once a day and once a week I do a 3 day fast and This keeps me feeling on top of the world, and I can see my body changing shape and growing muscle

Congratulations, since you first started blogging about IF and Dr. Fung, I have been researching and I believe Big Pharma, Big Food, and the government have led us down the primrose path. I am doing IF, training myself for EF and the difference is amazing. It’s up to us, not government, insurance or Drs, to get healthy.

Glad I found your blog. I started fasting in January 2016 and lost 100 after losing another 100 with keto which was way harder and crashed my thyroid.
I don’t have any set schedule wish did.
Since there’s now one story I can point too that’s so similar I can now say I’m not strictly anecdotal.
I tried all sorts of diets over 20 years and none of them worked after awhile. Fasting to me is the opposite. Hard to start but it’s just downhill.

Fantastic job Bob! I believe in fasting. I never get past 4 days though, so I may try again. My fasting blood sugar went down below 100 when I was (I have dawn phenomenon), You are looking great. Keep it up!

Thank you, Jen. Don’t’ worry about a blood sugar below 100 unless you are taking medication for Diabetes. If you are on diabetes meds, you can probably get off of them with that blood sugar. My blood sugar is regularly in the 50s or 60s. Under 100 should not be a problem!

Bob My wife and I started IF back in March of this did not know you were doing it. We both have had incredible results with a 23;1 Window. We love eating this way. Some times I will do a 72 Hour fast.
Several years ago I read about a man that was over 100 years old that ate one meal a day. I was trying to find the article what came up was people eating one meal a day and losing weight. I told my wife that I was going to do it for a Month as a experiment.
She said that the craziest thing I ever hear of. She said I could never do it. A week later she joined me. Now she says thanks to your crazy Ideal.

Hi Nathan. My wife’s reaction was about the same as yours. She thought it was crazy. I didn’t think i could do it and neither did she. It didn’t take long, i was telling your how much i loved it and she jumped in to doing intermittent fasting. A lot of people cant believe it when i tell them that i enjoyed fasting it makes me feel good. Bad, that is the absolute truth. A lot of other people who do fasting say the same, and it seems that includes you as well. Good luck with your efforts.
