I told you about a week ago that I was starting a 30 day fast. I have reconsidered that, at least for now.
Why?
Well, I have found that from time to time, like everybody, I hit weight plateaus. I stop losing weight. I have also found that when that happens if I change up my eating schedule, the weight loss resumes.
Last week, when I was getting into the 30 days fast, after a few days, I got stuck at 268.8 pounds. Every day it was the same, 268.8. I was losing nothing. I can tell you, nothing is more frustrating than eating nothing and not losing weight. I do understand that a lot of this kind of thing has a lot to do with things like water retention and such, but it is still frustrating.
In the past, I have found that if I do a fast for a few days, then when I eat, I lose more weight after eating than I was losing while fasting. Seems counter-intuitive, but that is my experience.
So, I decided to not do the 30 days fast, and instead, I will do a series of 5-day fasts, fasting on weekdays, and eating 1 meal or 2 meals each day on weekends.
Am I tired of fasting?
No, I am not at all tired of fasting. I like fasting. It makes me feel good, and I can see and feel parts of my body healing during fasting. So, I am actually enjoying the fasting, and I firmly intend to continue doing so.
So, fasting will go on. I may even do a 30 day fast in the future, I just decided to not do one right now, based on my current results. I am not fearful of doing a 30 day fast (or even longer), and I feel strongly that I can do it successfully. But, the way things were going, I just felt that now is not the right time.
Let’s see what happens
I will say that the next morning after the first day that I ate, I lost a half pound. So, it would seem like my change did help kick off some weight coming off. We shall see how it works moving forward.
As I said, I will be fasting Monday through Friday, though, so by the time you read this, I am back to fasting again! As it happens, I ate two small meals on Saturday this past weekend and the same on Sunday.

I do know that the issues with when the body stops losing weight is because it goes into a fight or flight mode. Its the body doing it naturally with out the person knowing. But soon as it gets a little food or fuel it wakes back up and starts the engine back up to burn again. Not sure if that’s your case, but from everything I’ve ever learned was what I said above. Everyone is different.

Yes, I think that all makes sense.

Good going. Keep it goal oriented right? That’s what I like about you Bob You keep it real. Rather lose the weight than go the 30 days just for the sake of fasting for 30 days. I’m sure you could do it, but if doing so defeats the purpose of why you initially started fasting whats the point right? Would this be called the 166:2 diet? 166 hour fast 2 hour window for eating over the weekend?
Alexander Mooney
I fell off the wagon btw. Pretty depressing. I’m starting all over again tomorrow morning. 🙁
Bob Martin
LOL. Thank you Alexander. Yeah, I don’t see a reason to do it if it’s not giving me results, and actually by making the change I’m single again now. So that’s a good thing.
Alexander Mooney
Sorry Bob I didn’t understand what you meant by “single again”. If you don’t mind what did you eat over the weekend? Strict keto 0 carbs?
Bob Martin
Sorry, I’m using voice input, and it messed up there. What I was saying is that I am seeing results now again.
Alexander Mooney
No worries. So glad to hear. I’ll msg you later today when I get back home if you don’t mind, looking for advise.

I have been listening to http://www.fastingtalk.com/ podcast. Megan Ramos who works with Dr Fung talks about not looking at the scale. She has treated thousands of patients in Dr. Fungs IDM program. Sometimes your body is gaining weight in the bones and muscle while you are losing fat. If you ate a high carb diet for many years your bones leached a lot of the minerals they need. Fasting and taking electrolytes can be adding to your bone density. Megan talks about proving it on certain patients using DEXA scans, they gained weight in bones and muscle. I feel your pain as my scale is in a stall right now. But just have to keep at it.

I also listen to that, it’s an excellent program.

It is amazing how much you can talk about not eating LOLð¤¤
