In a couple of my videos last week, I mentioned to you guys that I had embarked on a 20 day fast. Well… I did not make it 20 days!
On the afternoon of Day 7, I was feeling tired, so I laid down to take a nap. When I woke up and was really feeling bad. I felt tired and with muscle aches. At that point, I decided to cut off the fast early, and I ate a meal that day, then ate two meals the next day.
Since then, though, I have been back to fasting again. As of now, when writing this (just before publication) I am on day 3. I am feeling much better.
For this fast, in my mind, I am shooting for a 6 day fast, which will bring me until Thursday of this week. But, I also play it by ear and based on how I am feeling. I may stretch it longer than that, or I may eat one meal in the middle, we will just have to see.
During the 7 days fast that I ended last week, I lost about 8 pounds, but after eating again, I gained about 4 pounds back. This is quite normal because when you are fasting you shed a lot of fluids from your system, so you lose significant water weight, and that is regained quickly when you start eating again. Dr. Fung always says that you should expect a fat loss of about a half pound per day while fasting. Since I lost 8 lb and gained back 4 lb with the water that I regained, that means a 4 lb loss in 7 days which is pretty much in line with the half pound per day of fat loss.
I never feel guilty or feel that I have failed if I cut off a fast early. I still lost a net 4 lb in those 7 days of fasting, and that is a win! I did not cut off the fast due to a lack of ability to do it, I cut the fast off because I was not feeling well, which, in my mind, is the proper way to do it. You have to listen to what your body is telling you!
So, I keep venturing forward on fasting and losing weight. ย We’ll see how it goes this week!

Glad your not trying to be the tuff guy and push thru something you could regret, slow and easy wins the race.
Bob Martin
I don’t look at it as being tough or weak. It just is what it is! It turned out that it was not the right time to go for 20 days, but 7 days is still good an d produced results! Thanks, Bruce.

Hi Bob, I am not able to watch the videos you make because of slow internet here. I wish they were all written, like before, but I am only one person and probably the only one with that problem…
Bob Martin
I am sorry to hear that Luanne. I understand about a slow connection, especially where you are living now. I am trying to do a lot more video for several reasons. One bitg reason is because I have arthritis in my finger joints and that can make typing painful. But, I will mix it up with written posts and videos!
Luanne Shackelford
Ah, sorry about the fingers! Thanks! ๐
Bob Martin
No problem. I have been fighting this for maybe 10 years now… ๐
Luanne Shackelford
Probably an occupational hazard!
Bob Martin
Probably. I do feel that it seems to be getting a little better, maybe because of fasting. I know that arthritis in my knees has improved a lot.
Luanne Shackelford
That is great news! It will interesting to see how it all plays out, as you continue getting healthier! ๐
Luanne Shackelford
Sounds like a very smart way to go! You are in this for the long haul, and you are getting healthier! I like your approach; listening to you body, and not being a slave to the numbers. I am sure you are an inspiration to many! ๐
Bob
Hi, Luanne. Yep, that is how I look at it. It is not a contest or a race. I am losing weight pretty quickly. Sometimes it is faster, sometimes it is slower, but it is constantly on the way down, and that is how I want!
Terry L Snyder
Hi Bob, congratulations you are getting closer to your target weight. Imagine, how awesome that must feel. I am very proud of your accomplishments, and I hope you feel much better, you look great! Keep up the great work.
Bob Martin
Terry, as always I appreciate your kind and thoughtful words! Don’t worry, I have no plans on giving up! ๐

With medication I take I have problems going beyond 48 hours. I’m hoping to find an adjustment that works. Since it is a medicine to regulate my heart, if 48 hours it’s all I can do, I will do what I can.
I congratulate you on listening to what your body tells you. It isn’t a race, it’s a lifestyle.
Bob Martin
Exactly, LeRoy. I also take a drug to regulate my heart but thankfully it does not seem to interfere with my fasting.
LeRoy Miller
My medications seems to over correct when fasting. I’m hoping my new doctor can help. In the usa, with my insurance and deductible, finding a balance will require around $10,000 USD. Ouch.
Bob Martin
Hmm… That’s expensive.

Thank you Obamacare compliant insurance.
