Well, today is transition day! By the time you read this, I will have been fasting for 15 hours already.
On the weekend, I ate both days. Saturday I ate only lightly, but Sunday, I made it a real feast day. I did not eat breakfast but did eat a nice lunch and a nice dinner. I like to listen to a Podcast called “Fasting Talk” which is hosted by Jimmy Moore, and features wither Dr. Jason Fung or Megan Ramos. You all know who Dr. Fung is, I talk about him so much, but you may not know who Megan is. I have mentioned Megan before, but only like once. Megan is the Director of Dr. Fung’s Dietary Management Program in Canada, and she is well versed in Fasting and other dietary issues too.
Well, on a recent episode of Fasting Talk, Megan was talking about the difference between Fasting Days and Feasting Days, and she said that you need to Fast on Fasting Days and you really need to feast on Feasting Days, so I took her advice. I did have a sort of light lunch yesterday, Sunday, but my dinner was a really good one. I do eat only ketogenic foods on my Feasting Days, so my diabetes and other problems stay under great control, but I also get a really fulfilling meal.
For dinner last night, I had a ribeye steak smothered in sauteed onions, two fried cheesy eggs and some keto friendly bread (made with almond flour). I was certainly quite full after that meal! That is the first time I have had a large meal in quite a while, and it felt good. I did not gorge myself, or really even overeat, but just had a good filling meal. I think it was good for me.
After completing that dinner, I went straight back into fasting mode! So, I ate light over the weekend, with the exception of my dinner on Sunday. I pretty much never eat breakfast! I know that our culture has come up with the idea that breakfast is the “most important meal” of the day, but Dr. Fung says that is a fallacy, and I believe him. It is much healthier to fast through breakfast and all the way until lunchtime if you can do it.
My fasting plan for this week is that I started fasting at 6 PM last night, and I will fast until 6 PM Tuesday night, so a full 2 days of fasting. On Wednesday, I will eat lunch and dinner, and then I will fast from Wednesday at 6 PM until Friday at 6 PM. So, this week I will do 2 fasts of 2 days each. If I am feeling good I might stretch one of those facts for an extra day and do a total of 5 days of fasting for the week, we’ll see.
Lately, I have been having temptation while fasting. I am not really hungry, but I am wanting to break the fast and eat something. This week, I am hoping to try a few new strategies and put that temptation behind me. I used to be able to go right past temptation, but it has gotten more difficult to do that in the past 2 weeks or so. I am confident that I can beat that, though. Wish me luck!
I have been getting a lot of feedback from people who are following my articles and a large percentage of them are also trying fasting now. If you have tried doing some fasting, how are you doing? Are you finding it easier to fast than you expected? Are you getting good health results through fasting? Let me know, I’d be interested in hearing your experiences!

Take it easy Bob.

I am doing well, Susie, thank you! ๐

I have been generally doing one meal a day (Dinner) for one year. I lost 20 lbs and cut my insulin use in half. That all happened in around 6 months. The past 6 months have just been maintaining mostly.
We did go on vacation and I gained a few lbs back.
May join the long distance program to help me get over the finish line which for me is weight at 160 and no more insulin.
Starting a 36 hour fast tonight at 10 pm since that has been advice from other people.
Bob
Hi Peter, thanks for sharing! It sounds like you have experienced some success! Congratulations on that.
From what you say, it would seem that you still want to lose some more weight? Not sure how much.
If you do one meal a day (OMAD) on a continuous basis it will set a new set point in your body for weight. That will make it very difficult to lose more weight doing OMAD. Do a little research into it. Dr. Fung does not recommend OMAD, unless you are at your goal weight.
Good luck!

I interpret Fasting as Fast Eating…..

When fasting, only consume water.

Bob,
I’m starting a 24 hour fast tonight. My first fast. Will do 2 24 hour fasts per week. Good luck on your new routine. It’s good to have a change of pace every once in a while. That steak sure looks good.
Bob
Congratulations! I hope that you’re fasting goes very well, it’s really done a lot of Wonders for me, and I hope that you also see great benefits from it.

My most successful “diet” was one where I ate when I was hungry. When I did eat, I ate small quantities and ate slowly, chewing thoroughly. When I was getting the “full signal”, I stopped eating even if my portion was not finished. Some days I didn’t eat for many hours, other days I ate many small meals.
I think you are definitely on the right track here Bob. We need to break out of the social norms and stop eating on everyone else’s schedule and eat the way our body needs to. I have found that I end up eating based on several other peoples schedules all at the same time! That’s about 3 times as much food as I need!
For me, even though I love it, the large evening meal is a killer. If I eat very light after 2:00 PM I lose weight. Everyone has a different need. I think the path to success is to find what your body needs and drop what it is used to based on habit.

Thanks for sharing, it’s pretty interesting. That kind of frequent eating pattern would be pretty bad for somebody with diabetes like mecomma but if it works for you that’s really great. Thanks again.

Bob Martin I wasn’t diabetic at that time.

Thankfully, I am no longer diabetic myself… so that is the great thing from what I am doing! ๐
