Recently, I got my hands on some Low Carb Soft Tacos from La Banderita. I had heard about these “flour” tortillas some months back and wanted to give them a try, but they are not available here in the Philippines where I live. Thankfully, my son is in the States right now, so I had him buy a bunch of them for me, and an American friend who lives here in Davao City was going home for a short visit. He carried them back for me. I appreciate the efforts of both my son (Aaron) and my friend (Jeff) for taking care of this for me.
I used to always like to have maybe some green salad with a little grilled chicken or other meat wrapped in a flour tortilla. Made a tasty and relatively low-calorie lunch or dinner. Easy to handle and delicious too. But, when I started watching my carbohydrate intake more than calories, I had to stop using regular flour tortillas because the number of carbs was just too high to fit in with what I was wanting to do to improve my health.
Feyma tried making some low carb tortilla wraps, but we never could get it just right and they would always be clumsy and fall apart when you tried to eat them, especially if you wrapped something with them.
So, when I heard about these La Banderita brand soft tacos, I decided to have my son order some and try them out. The soft tacos are available from several sources in the USA, including Amazon.
After receiving the taco shells, I told my son to eat some of them and he said they were quite great! When you order these from Amazon, you get 12 packs with 8 soft tacos in each pack, so 96 shells in all, so I told my son to just keep a few packs to enjoy for himself (and believe me, he did).
When I finally received mine, I tried one the very first day. I really missed having this sort of thing in my diet! I found them to be great, very enjoyable! It really hit the spot for me. Another great thing, for somebody like me who lives overseas, these shells will keep well as long as the package is unopened. Even un-refrigerated, they will be good for months!
I find these tortilla shells to taste pretty much the same as “normal” flour tortillas. They are perhaps a bit more “grainy” like a multi-grain or high grain version, which I find to be a good thing, and a delicious thing!
Yeah, you are buying 96 shells, so it is not cheap, but on a per-shell basis, I find them affordable, less than US 50cents per tortilla shell.
Enjoy! I know I am!

Whats even better is to just use large pieces of lettuce leaves as your shell. Yummm

I like to Tortilla, because I usually put salad inside of them. It adds an extra texture in an extra flavor too.

Oh don’t get me wrong, I’ll make you a flour taco that will make you cry for more. Remember where I live at, mexican food is as authentic as you can get here. ðð

Yeah, these have no flour though, there low carb. Made with psyllium husk.

Dang, that looks good, Bob.
Bob Martin
They are very good, I promise you.

Whats your limit on carb grams? I just checked the mission brand flour tortillas here in Manila. Its 23g for the sane serving size, so twice as much. Cost is 100p for a pack of 6.
Bob Martin
At the most, I eat 5 grams of carbs per day.

Thanks Bob, these look great and i am impressed at how low the carbs are. A bit to pricy with the exchange here
Bob Martin
I feel they are well worth the money, although I certainly understand about exchange rates.

Bob Martin yes, our Canadian dollar is so low when purchasing anything in U.S. dollars.

I have two packs of those low carb tortillas in my refrigerator right now, they seem to last a long time. Matter of fact never remember them ever going bad. Don’t eat them every day. But have been keeping those around for at least 6 years now. Egg or meat with onions little diced tomatoes, shredded cheese, yumm..sometimes only just shredded cheese and roll.
At first you got me real excited because the last time I was in Cebu I didn’t bring any and when I looked I could never find any…so at first I thought they had finally got there.. so I can keep wishing…
Bob
Hi James, hopefully in the next few years they will have those here. I know that I would by quite a few of them.

Great product even with a higher price. Even used this in my business. I have said “I can get a cheaper taco but it will make me fat so better to buy quality” taco sounds better than toatilla lol.
Bob
I feel they taste even better than the other ones.
