Well, Day 8 has come and gone, and I can already smell the finish line! The end is in sight!
Today, I really felt great and happy to be able to continue my fast! After having to take in a small amount of soup on Day 7, it was great to be back to 100% fasting on Day 8.
Muscle Pain
I have been reporting that I have been experiencing muscle pain for several days, particularly in my legs. I am happy to report that in day 8 the muscle pain was pretty much a thing of the past! I was really happy about that.
Hunger
Really, no hunger at all during day 8. I felt good all day long. Good, strong feeling. I had a great sense of inner peace and satisfaction with how things are going. It is very satisfying to me to be able to go for more than 8 days, be feeling well, and feel no hunger. I would have never expected that it would be even remotely possible!
Doctor
This morning, Feyma had to go to the doctor for a checkup. She and I share the same doctor for our everyday health needs, and I went along with her. After he finished up with Feyma, I asked him a few questions about fasting. He got a look on his face, a real look of concern, almost like he was freaking out.
The doctor started telling me that I was going to have ketoacidosis. I told him that what I was actually experiencing was “Ketosis” not “Ketoacidosis”. His response was that the two were basically the same thing!
Well, I am sorry, but that is not correct. Unfortunately, the doctor is not well versed in this area, I found out. Ketoacidosis can happen when your diabetes is way, way out of control and you have sugar in your urine and your blood. Ketosis, on the other hand, is when your body starts burning fat as its fuel. Dietary ketosis is not considered dangerous.
Have a look at this resource which explains the vast difference between these two conditions.
It was greatly disappointing to me to learn that my doctor did not have an understanding of this concept. I really like this doctor a lot, and I was sad that he did not even seem open to learning more about it.
Visitor
We had a visitor at the house this afternoon. She was here for a business meeting. I had not seen this lady for probably close to a year. As soon as she came into the house she said: “Bob, you have lost a lot of weight!” Made me feel great. This lady is also overweight, and she was asking me what I am doing, so I explained everything to her. She is pre-diabetic and was very interested in both the weight loss and the ability to turn around her pending diabetes. She said she intends to give this program a try. I am very happy about that.
Weight
I weighed in today at 273.4, gained 4/10ths of a pound today!
Total weight loss since the beginning of this 10 Day fast is 8.2 pounds.
Blood Glucose
My blood glucose today ranged between 80 and 100. I was very happy with this result.
I have been running low on blood glucose test strips for my glucometer and trying to conserve them. Thankfully today, I received a package that my son sent me with plenty of replacements! Thank you, Aaron!
Just 2 Days left!
Well, like I said the end is near! Less than 2 days left to go, and I am not feeling any problems at this point. That makes me very happy, and I really have no doubts that I can make it until the end. Unless something changes very drastically, I believe I could make it another 10 days or even longer if I wanted to. But, I will be stopping at the end of 10 days, but I will do Intermittent Fasting after this prolonged fast ends. I will be back for more long-term fasts too in the future!
Talk to you again tomorrow!
Luanne Shackelford
Might be good to have some printed definitions of Keto-acidosis and ketosis before you go in for your own appointment, some thing concise he can read in a short time while you sit there. Maybe from PubMed, or some other source he would recognize. 🙂
Bob
Hi Luanne. How are you doing?
I think the printed cards might be interesting. For many doctors here in the Philippines, I think they might be intimidated by that though. They might feel that you are trying to “tell them what they should know already”, if you know what I mean. It really disappointed me, though when he went into the whole detoacidosis thing. 🙁

Some studies say that the biggest contributor to the rise of Diabetes is the introduction of soda pop to a nation.
Maybe even a bigger contributor is the Doctors who have been taught to tell their patients that they need to cut out the fats, meats, eggs, ect. and that it is OK to drink diet pop skim milk (sugar water), margarine, and other processed foods.
You have had great results (the same or better than the numerous Atkins tests and published studies) But who is the Doctor to believe, you the living proof in front of him, or his Lying eyes?
It is hard to teach an old dog new tricks that has been taught by the beliefs of many old dogs.
Keep up the good work of proving them wrong while enjoying the improved health.

Hi BigP. Today is going to be a very interesting day. I have a doctor’s appointment with my endocrinologist, my diabetes doctor. Today for the first time he’s going to learn about my journey, how my diabetes is gone now, and what I did. I wonder what he’ll think about it? I’m excited to see.
