Autophagy News
Slow Loss of Weight | Fast loss of fat
Even though over the past couple weeks my weight loss has been stagnant, I can tell that I am still losing a lot of fat. I can also tell that I am experiencing a great deal of Autophagy. According to my Tanita Body Composition Monitor, my body fat percentage is decreasing every day.
Additionally, every night when I lay down to sleep, I am amazed that I can feel parts of my body getting significantly thinner. I feel bones in places where I never remember having bones before!
Eyes
I have reported over the past couple of years that I have been experiencing some severe eye problems. This all developed when I had diabetes. I have since reversed diabetes, but the eye damage was done, and I have been fighting it. Thankfully, autophagy can take care of things like that!
back when I was doing my mid-May to mid-June 28 day fast, I told you that I was literally “seeing” positive changes happening in my eyes. My vision was getting clearer. Blotches of blood that had leaked into my eyeballs were disappearing. It seems that autophagy is having a great effect on my eyes.
Magnifying Glass
Back in December, I had a major blood leakage into my right eyeball. My right eye was my better eye, the one that I could read with. But, when I had that large leakage of blood, my vision was nearly totally lost. My eye doctor measured my vision at 20/1000. The eye was basically of no value.
My wife bought me several good magnifying glasses that I could put in various locations around the house. One in the living room, one in the bedroom, and one in my office. These are places where I generally need to read something, and a magnifying made it possible to read, although it was still difficult.
Bye-bye Magnifying Glass
Last week, my vision had improved so much that I was able to read without the need for a magnifying glass! I was thrilled.
I see this improvement through autophagy.
What is Autophagy
I learned about Autophagy from watching videos from Dr. Jason Fung.
Autophagy was only discovered in recent years. A group of Japanese scientists did extensive research about it and won the Noble Prize for Medicine in 2016 because of their discoveries in the field.
Basically, autophagy is a process that happens while fasting. When autophagy starts your body begins “consuming” itself. Your body consumes cells that are either unhealthy cells or cells that are no longer needed.
What Unhealthy Cells?
Unhealthy cells would include things like cancerous cells, cells that have mutated into a state that is no longer healthy for your body. Also, cells with other types of diseases or conditions are unhealthy and your body consumes these cells and replaces them with new healthy cells.
What cells are no longer needed?
Well, the most exciting part of autophagy for obese people (like me) is that your body notices that you have lost significant weight and have a good amount of loose skin due to the weight loss. If you lose weight through fasting your body will consider these “skin cells” to be no longer needed and will consume them, eliminating loose skin, or at least reducing it.
My most exciting experience
A few nights back, I had an autophagy experience that was very exciting. Surprisingly it happened over the period of one night. Perhaps it went on longer, but the results were noticeable (and significant) overnight.
I am 56 years old and have been obese all of my life. Anybody who is older and has had a long past of obesity, you will have loose skin and also your tummy will hang down over your pants. This is just the truth, I am being honest. I think anybody in my situation will have the same.
As I have said I have recently been losing a lot of fat. It is noticeable in my body as bones are discovered in places where they were covered with fat.
With this loss of fat, my belly has been dropping more and more.
A few nights ago, about half of that drooping, hanging skin went away overnight! I knew I was losing fat and was hoping for loose skin loss too. When I woke up the next morning, I reached down, and was shocked when that skin was no longer there!
I still have some drooping skin on my belly, but after my experience, I am certain that my loose skin will be gone by the time I have completed my weight loss journey. This makes me so happy. I am sure it will be exciting for others to hear this!
Well, that is my autophagy story. Great results, and things that are pushing me to keep going! I have no plans to stop anytime soon!

Thank you, Ellen. Indeed, I am so happy with the changes that are appearing! ๐
Jeff
Great news Bob, really happy for your progress!!!!!!
Bob
Thank you, Jeff. I have to admit.. I am pretty happy myself!
Sisi
Wow! Congratulations Bob! I’m so happy for you. I read about autophagy, but I think you’re the only person who has seen concrete evidence of it. I’m 48 and I know I’m going to have loose skin, but I hold out a lot of hope for autophagy to do its work. I haven’t done the long fasts that you have yet, because my husband doesn’t feel comfortable with it. I’m working up to it and letting him adjust. ๐
Thank you so much for sharing your results! You give me hope.
Bob
Thank you Sisi. I know for sure that autophagy works because I have seen it. I hope it will work for you too! It is a wonderful thing!

Hi, Just started my first ever fast (day 12) at 67 years old. Not being scientific have been struggling to get my head around autophagy. Was glad to read your piece above.
I am down 20 lbs and probably need to drop another 70 – 80 lbs. Hoping that even at my age autophagy will occur on me.
Bob
Congratulations, Mary! That is great.
I don’t think that autophagy is an age-related thing, so as long as you do some multi-day fasts, I am pretty sure you will get the great benefits that autophagy can provide us!
Good luck to you!
