It has been a while since you heard from me here on 430 To Fit! Don’t worry, I am doing fine!
For those who don’t know me, the reason for my absence may be troubling, but if you know me well you will know that December is an extremely busy month for me, and November is too with preparations for the big month of December.
Why are Nov/Dec busy?
Basically, two reasons.
First, I own, and have owned for nearly 20 years, a business called WowPhilippines. It is an online gift shop where we sell things like flowers, chocolates, and other “sweetheart gifts”. During the months of December and February, we do about 80% of our annual sales – Christmas and Valentines. Because such a large portion of our income relies on these two important months it is imperative that I have to concentrate on this business during those months and times leading up to those months, to make sure we are ready!
Second, several years ago, I started doing Santa Claus appearances in malls and other businesses in my area. It has grown into a large business as well, which means that October and November are busy with sales calls, and December is very busy with the actual Santa appearances. This is something that I enjoy doing, and I put in a lot of effort so that I do it right and offer a great experience for the kids! This is something that is very important to me.
I stopped fasting in October
In October 2017, I stopped fasting. The reason was that I have contracts with various malls to provide them with a Santa during the Christmas season, and I was starting to get too thin to do the role convincingly. In many ways, I also felt that there were physical reasons why it would be a good idea for me to take a break from fasting for a couple of months. Over the next several days I will write several articles explaining the things that happened to me when I stopped fasting. Some bad, some good. In the end, though.. not much bad at all (but you have to give it time for the story to be told).
So, as of now, I have gone for a little more than 6 weeks without fasting.
I am doing some Intermittent Fasting, but no Extended Fasting. I will often eat just one meal per day, or at least not eat until 2 PM. It is a rare day that I eat before 2 PM, and I rarely eat after about 7 PM, so that would mean Intermittent fasting of about 19 hours per day on average, sometimes more. It works well for me.
I did experience some weight gain after stopping the EF. It worried me (a lot), but as things moved forward, I am less concerned about that, and I will get into that tomorrow. When I explain that tomorrow I am sure you will see why it is not very concerning to me.
As I mentioned earlier in this article, there were some physical reasons that I felt it was good to stop fasting for a while. Those reasons include things like my body getting “out of whack” in some “normal” functions. Particularly bowel movements (sorry if this is TMI). I had gotten to the point where I had some real troubles with this. Depending on where I was in my fasting schedule, I had gotten where I was either super constipated or had extreme diarrhea all of the time – one or the other. After a week or so of not fasting, my bowel cycles got normal again, and it feels good. After having a bit of an extended “no-fast” period, I am pretty certain that when I go back to fasting again, things will remain normal, at least for several months. During this year, I did EF from March until the end of October, and it was only getting toward the end where I experienced this type of problem.
Another physical “reset” that happened when I stopped fasting was that I had gotten to the point where my electrolytes were hard to control and keep in balance. This led to times of dizziness and such. I did my best to keep them in balance, but it was hard. Getting back to a fairly normal eating schedule has me feeling very good in this department as well. I expect that when I start doing EF again, I will not experience the electrolyte problem for a number of months.
Otherwise, physically, I just felt it was a good time to shift my body back into a more normal mode.
I will start EF again soon
I have no doubt that I will go back to doing EF again very soon. Probably right after the New Year. I am still eating Keto. My blood sugar is still in excellent control. I range between 100 and 115 on blood sugar (fasting or post-meal). I don’t have any fears or struggles about doing EF again, in fact, I can’t wait to do it.
Over the next week, I will be posting my story of the experiences I have had when not fasting. Then, you can bet that I will be going full blast on this site again when I am back “in the swing” of things with fasting, weight loss, and health!
Have a great Christmas, everybody!
